Miguel Migs - Brand New Day
July 2010
You might think from the recent spate of atheist best-sellers that belief in God has become intellectually indefensible for thinking people today. But a look at these books by Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens, among others, quickly reveals that the so-called New Atheism lacks intellectual muscle. It is blissfully ignorant of the revolution that has taken place in Anglo-American philosophy. It reflects the scientism of a bygone generation rather than the contemporary intellectual scene.
This is one of the few issues I disagree with the majority of conservatives and because of that, I prefer to keep silent, but as a Christian, I believe every person can be saved by Christ at the last minute and I think if a man kills other because of a crime it will condemn the punished with two deaths! One material and the other is spiritual: his chances to be saved will be gone (of course, this had nothing to do with laws). It is indeed subjective of mine, but Pope John Paul II said death penalty is no more necessary, besides I know death penalty was always approved in Christian tradition.
Many people also thinks life sentence is a alternative, but I don’t think so, how you can punish a life sentenced prisoner if he commits a crime inside the prison? He will pass all his life thinking in escape too! And like Brazil, he can coordinate his gang inside the prison.
